Melting Superconductor

High-temperature ceramic superconductor image

This image is an Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM) image of a high-temperature ceramic superconductor.

At the top of the image the material is solid, but as the photograph was exposed the material melted so that the bottom half shows dark calcium oxide particles (which are solid) floating in the molten superconductor at close to 1000° C.
