Information For New Users


Welcome to the Characterization Facility (CharFac).  On our website at http://www.charfac.umn.edu under 'User Info & Policies' you will find additional information and the necessary forms to set up an account.  You will also find safety information, and general policies and rules that must be followed while working in CharFac.  Please take a few minutes to read through the materials so that you are aware of the policies regarding reserving equipment, making appointments, canceling reservations, training, and getting access to the facility during the hours that the business office is not open.


To get started using CharFac there are three areas to address:

User Registration

Fill out the appropriate form for your client type - users from the University of Minnesota (U of M) or non-U of M users.  Write legibly so others can read it, print if necessary.  It is very important that you fill out all information before we can set up an account for you.  This includes reading and accepting the user agreement and safety training requirements.

Billing Information

We also need to have current billing information before your account can be activated.  For U of M users this would consist of an EFS account number.  For non-U of M users this is generally purchase order information.  The appropriate forms can be found on the website.

Training

Request training on the user registration form or e-mail with your training request.  Be specific as to the instruments for which you desire training.  If you plan to get training on any of the x ray equipment, you will need to have additional specific safety training.  Please go over the materials on the website to make sure that you have done the correct safety training before setting up an appointment with the specialists.
